Bonjour Didi (ou Bea?),

You're right, I work with computers: I develop web sites and do graphics.

Hi Didi/Bea,

Thanks for sharing some of your 'secrets'...

No worries, but I am probably one of those OTHER people.
Developing and designing web sites is what I do for a living...

It's been a long time since I was in Colombia (I think it was in 1982), when I spent four exciting months in South America (with my - than - wife). We enjoyed it. Still have some great slides from Bogota...

I am from Austria, originally a civil engineer, but changed my life by moving into publishing and graphic design 15 years or so ago. I am still publishing contemporary literature (just as a hobby) and transferred my design skills onto the Internet a few years ago.

>..... and a few years ago i decided to do something i always
>wanted i got my commercial pilot license which i really
>enjoyed.........that is how i saw a lot of australia flying
>a little piper arrow...

...and I did it on the ground: I used to be a tour operator in my early Australian days, driving outback adventure tours with a LandCruiser and trailer all around the country.
At one of this occasions I made a joy flight in a Piper around the Flinders Ranges...

So what is your life like these days? Still flying? Where do you live in the City?

Bye for now,
George

hi george
i am curious of how you ended up coming to australia, you sound like you have travel quite a bit.....amazing that you have been to colombia, did you go to other places besides bogota?...usually people are frightened and would never choose to go there......on the other hand that is why it is still so special even though certain foreign companies try to utilize the indigenous people of the amazon as slaves for mines explotation and other natural resources.......anyway i better change the subject otherwise i may bore you with the colombian problematic.
i am now trying to decide wether or not to go to Darwin on friday since a friend that is in charge of the charter flights call this morning, asking for help for the east timor rescue and peace operations at the base...besides giving them a hand there, i could probably make some contacts for work in the future.....as you can see i am not working at the moment, i had a very hectic year after separating from my husband, moving to a new place, and reorganizing my life.....
i better leave for now and hope to hear from you soon[...]

Margit, one of my housemates is moving out at the end of October.
One one hand it's good for the house was crowded, but on the other hand I guess I have to find somebody else to minimise my expenses until the end of November...
I don't like that idea very much; I'd rather move into the fisherman's cottage in Maianbar. What a perfect hermitage that would make!

...why well-off people like Karl and now yourself are snapping when you think that others are just after your money? Is that some fear that because you have this wealth you might be exploited by everybody who has less? I certainly would never ask you for anything for me!

With Karl at the dinner table I just pointed out that half of his guests were out of red wine and he took it instantly the wrong way as if I wanted to get drunk on his money - but if I could give a dinner party I would either offer what I could or simply say sorry that I had run out of red wine.

With you you suddenly cut a conversation short when I mention a little hatch that broke when you closed the clove compartment and would cost maybe 40 Dollars to replace - but when I am told that I broke something in somebody's car I'd offer to get it fixed no matter what my own bank account is without being ask.

I sincerely hope you'll explain this to me sometime...

Dear Bea,

I hope you guys arrived safe and well in Colorado! The last few days before your departure were quite stressful for all of us, let's hope in the future we will travel together...

I took the boys home and kept the car to have it cleaned sometime. Also I'll bring this letter for the doctor to the post for you. It's empty in my house, not even Angelika is home. Brett (Ralph's pilot friend) invited you and me for a sailing trip, but I'm staying in, for this weekend will hopefully bring a good housemate for the time being. We'll see how we go from there when you get home in February.

Take good care of yourself (and let your hair grow, Rapunzel).

Anyway, she would like to meet you when you get back. Most people were actually nice and so I based my decision on the time they wanted to stay (most of them just for a few months) and I picked a German for 8 weeks only; just the time you're away so we will be free to move to the beach in February...

No email from you in two days? Lots of skiing and parties?

I've done all my work, even finished and checked my tax return and sent it off to my accountant, so I had the afternoon off and went to the beach by myself...
Not the same without you!

Lots of love,
George

Dear Bea,

I wish I could... Ralph has invited me (because he needs a car to get there, I suppose) but I've not made up my mind yet.

Angelika has gone so I'm seeing the Colombian for the small room today. Maybe she's moving in after all. Otherwise no news. It's raining a little bit after 34 degrees yesterday.

I will have no work for the holiday season - and I miss you very much!

No reason for jealousy... But Maribelle's not that reliable, said she would come by 'in the morning' and it's already 11am! Must be running on Colombian time...

If I go with Ralph it'll be for a couple of weeks to make the 10 hours drive worthwhile.
He's not with Beth anymore. She needed some financial support and when she couldn't get it from Ralph she went back to her previous lover... Hmmm.

The German lives here since last weekend and SHE is doing OK. Her boyfriend will be coming for a couple of weeks, too.

Enjoy your walk!

Dear Bea,

I'm missing you so much - and it's only been 10 days (and 46 to come!) - don't know how to wait for much longer, I've been pacing up and down the house all Sunday, going out only to buy the newspaper and cigarettes (yes, still smoking...) I wish you wouldn't have left me alone in Sydney...

You've got at least family around you (which seems to be exhausting according to your messages that you needed 12 hours sleep instead of having a relaxed time?)

Thursday Ralph and I drive to the property, at least some company for the holidays, over Xmas Ariadne and Andreas with partners will also be coming up; we don't know yet if we're also spending New Years Eve up there. Depends on how crowded the place gets. I'll take my laptop but I'm not sure if and when I will be able to go online.

Maribel's been disappointing. Didn't show nor call all Sunday. Thanks to her I'll now have the room empty for two weeks; it's too late now to place another ad in the paper. In the new year a friend of Andrea might move in for a few weeks, and her boyfriend Andreas is also expected. I think I will take my car in January and go walkabout to keep sane.

Hope your knee is getting better. Don't overdo skiing, look after yourself and get plenty of rest and think (or dream) of me...

Love you,
George

Date: 22/12/1999 8:54 AM
To: Bea Blue, beablue@hotmail.com

Hi Bea,

I met with Ralph yesterday and he made me so angry that I cancelled our country trip.
As you might remember, I was invited to the property in return for a big favour I did for the family: design and production of a memorial booklet for Lorraine's (his ex-wife) funeral.

Knowing his finances I offered him to pay for the drive up there out of my own pocket but than he says to me I also had to buy my own food (what kind of 'invitation' is this for a full week's work?) and than he also expected me to taxi him to the pub every night (20 km away) when I only wanted to go for swims, walks and early nights...) and besides, the house was going to be so full that I had to bring a sleeping bag for the floor!

Anyway, I didn't explain it to him (he wouldn't understand) but said I have to go to Spain instead and couldn't drive him there anymore...

So I'll be spending Xmas in Sydney...

Love you,
George

To: Bea Blue, beablue@hotmail.com

Hi Bea,

>please tell me what are your doubts about renting a beach house,
>have you change your mind???

Here's some considerations:

I hate moving and I'm not too keen to go somewhere for six months just to move again.
(One of the reasons I lived in Belvoir Street for five years...) I'd love a real 'home'.
You only need to bring a suitcase, I need a truck for everything!

Moving doesn't just involve me but also my business:
I need two telephone/ISDN lines (not worthwhile installing them on a short term).
I need to change lots of listings and directories (some have a one year turnaround).
I need to print cards and other stationery; a business needs a permanent address.

It's too expensive: Buying a property is sensible investment; renting one is money wasted. As for what you said about the Olympic Games, it's actually the other way round: Nobody buys a house for two weeks, but the rents will go up through the roof (I've found beach houses for $400+ per week. Ross's cottage in Maianbar for $220 is a bargain). In comparison, the Krausmann property was only $150,000 for 20 acres and it looks gorgeous (I've seen photos).

If you want a getaway for the summer (as a relationship testing period?) I better keep Belvoir Street for a little longer and we take our time and search for something lasting, like a warehouse/office/weekender combination for the four of us and the two babies coming? (My mother wrote that she would love to see grandchildren...) Or we just go for a walkabout up Cape York?

Well, just some thoughts...

Love you,
George

Hi George
I understand your situation and hopefully you will also see my side of things....I have been honest with you about how difficult it is for me moving in with you, and you have to realise that I don' want to have any doubts specially after just finishing a relationship of seven years, I have two teenage daughters and I just can't take any chances I must be sure, in order to be possitive we have to know each other quite well and as I said before I would like to spend as much time as my obligations with my daughters permit with you...you know I want to do it...I just don't want them or me to be hurt again I have to be sure we have to both compromise and find a way in which we both feel good...we need to talk and clear all our doubts or simply our questions and first of all I have to be free from my previous marriage. When I met you; you were looking for a beach house to move into and share with another person to pay the rent.... I thought the idea of sharing it with you would be perfect as it would give us the opportunity of getting to know each other and it would be easy for both of us wihought complicating our lives it would give us the perfect way to really experience our feelings for each other....
buying aproperty is a big compromise.... would you be willing to sell your apartment in austria and invest with me in a beach house?
would you be so sure that you would consider doing this?
don't forget I need a truck for the things I am bringing, not a suitcase it is a big move for me too
just a bit concern[...]

I can't, my mother lives in my apartment. But I would sell it later to invest in a warehouse, the beach house should just be fun, (a dream, a luxury?) not permanent? I only ever can buy ONE thing at the time and if I need to WORK to make money I seriously couldn't do it out of a beach house... And for a shared investment I'd have to be married with you!

Andrea has moved into her new (ware)house: I hope we can 'inspect' it soon.

More thoughts coming...

Bea,

We've got to look at the bigger picture. It's not just you or me it's four (and maybe even more) people. I love you now. I don't change like the weather, I evolve with the changing situations. We shouldn't make ANY compromise, we need to find a common denominator...

Before I met you I was dreaming of a partner (not in the business sense) who would like to share her life with mine and get settled in a HOME. For two people a house within an hour of the City would have made sense. With you it's not just you but also the little princess and Maria. They've got to go to school/uni. And later a couple of babies, maybe. Therefore we need to find something which suits ALL of us, and that's certainly not a beach house. And certainly not Millennium Tower. This is the reason why I thought it would be a little luxury for us (and an investment for you that pays better than the 5% from the bank if you wanted to invest in something). It wouldn't work in that way that I live there and you use it as a weekender. If you want to do more 'testing' than just live with me in Belvoir Street. And when we're ready we move. Or even take the fisherman's cottage in Maianbar for a few months.

I just came back from Andrea and Ragan's new house (a little merry after three beers) and I'm very impressed. They found what I was dreaming of: a converted factory, actually two houses joined together with a court yard in the middle. One of it two stories, the other one two and a half. One for us and the office, the other one for the kids. It was 850,000.

>have you decided to join me in Spain? it would probably be a good
>experience for both of us.

YES, I decided to be crazy enough to join you in Madrid (I already told you that) but as of today I didn't get any flight confirmations yet. In what sense do you think it would be a good experience? For both of us? It certainly would have been a guaranteed one if we had booked tickets on time! Anyway I keep trying. I must be love sick...

Dear Bea,

Doing it my way I've put my hands on a flight on Wednesday, arriving in Vienna the next day. I don't know the arrival time in Madrid yet, because it's not Lauda who's doing that service. (Probably Austrian Airlines) but as I told you on the phone, nobody issues tickets right now. The airport office looks only after lost or stolen tickets. Wednesday morning they're back at work and that's giving me just enough time to organise everything for departure on the very same day. If your second parking is not taken by Jason or Di I will leave my car there and take the airport bus from George Street.

Now I need to find enough warm clothes for the winter and organise the house for six weeks... Tonight I'm invited to a Christmas dinner and will get very drunk, I hope!

Will you pick me up? (esta el aeropuerto lejos?) - I'll ring Miguel (91) 553 3391 on Thursday or you could find out from Lauda when the connecting 'avion' from Vienna arrives. Do we need a car? (I renewed my driver's license yesterday for another three years.) Is there a good Millennium party somewhere in Madrid? This will be three great weeks for us! The beginning of something very special! And when I go to Austria I will know that I see you again in Sydney in a short time...

However, I'm only coming to Spain if you will marry me...

Yes. I got them but have not confirmed the Madrid arrival. The plane gets very early (about 6am) to Vienna and according to my information the connection is not NG but Austrian or Tyrolean Airlines. We'll know for sure on Wednesday.

Hi Baby,

I found flight NG9258 leaving 15:00 arriving 18:00 on the net as well; maybe the airport staff didn't know because they said it'll be OS8251 leaving 19:25 arriving 22:20...

We'll see in a couple of days. One thing seems certain: I'm arriving in Vienna at 10:50 Thursday morning. One way or the other we'll hug each other that same night!

PS. Don't reply to this address.

Lots of love,
George

Baby,

I'll be leaving Sydney at 20:35 (leaving home at 6:30 hopefully finding parking); the most likely arrival will be Thursday 18:00 in Madrid. Nobody works in this country on Monday and Tuesday (because Xmas and Boxing Day were on a weekend) so I'll know tomorrow morning for sure.

I'll send you the details to your hotmail box. You get to Madrid a day earlier so you can check on the airport or later at an internet cafe in town.

We can count now in hours instead of weeks until we kiss each other...

Love you,
George

Dear Bea,

I was so worried about you when I saw the news on TV about that killer storm in Europe! Hopefully you've made it safely into Madrid...

Due to the weather conditions in Spain and Austria the flight tonight was cancelled and will leave on Friday instead. I got my tickets this morning and will be arriving in Madrid on 1/1/2000 at 6pm (Flight NG 9258, leaving Vienna at 3pm). All flights from Sydney to Madrid and back to Vienna are confirmed, I'm only waitlisted for my return to Sydney, but that's not a problem. Will be funny to be in the air at the turn of the millennium (keep your fingers crossed that there's no Y2K bug in the 777 computers).

Pity that I have to wait two more days until I see you but there's nothing I could do to influence Mr Petrus. I guess I have to bring a rain jacket...

Love you and see you Saturday,
George

Well, Bea, I'm going to make it; but could you???
I'm worried about your flight into this bad storm since you didn't call yet, nor email...

I really hope you arrived safely and I can hold you in my arms this Saturday!!!

Love you,
George

Dear Bea,

I still haven't heard from you but I know you got safely to Madrid. I stopped worrying because there were no news of a plane crash, and that's good news. Maybe you just couldn't find a working phone. Anyway, the storm has eased but the temperature is around zero... brrr...

It's only hours now that I will hold you into my arms again - and I'm so glad that it will be on the very first day of the new millennium.
What a great start into our future!

...that will warm us up!

Soon,
George

Dear Bea,

I don't know why we had no communication since you left Colorado (there must be lots of internet cafes in Spain), but I sincerely hope I will see you tomorrow at 6pm at the airport in Madrid after a long flight across the turn of a millennium...

The very last time online in the 20st century...
I'm sorry that you went to the airport in vain, but you said you would call from Madrid and everybody in the house could have told you my arrival time; it also surprises me that once you were there Lauda Air didn't tell you that the flight from Sydney was cancelled...

Anyway, what do you think about celebrating the first day of the millennium with me in a hot bubbly bath drinking Champagne?

Always thinking of you,
George :-*
